Pagar Fowl is a small browser game in which the player is a Singapore red junglefowl rooster causing trouble around an estate. It is built with Three.js. The fantasy is simple: cause mischief, get noticed, escape, cool down, bank the reward and bring more birds into the flock.
The prototype has the spine of a game rather than just a scene: movement and camera control, chase pressure, heat, hiding, nest banking, flock behavior, and a 3D estate that gives those systems somewhere to interact.
The loop
- Cause mischief: grab food off tables, or crow to startle people.
- Get noticed: each act raises a heat meter.
- Escape or cool down: hiding lowers heat faster, and high heat brings out an officer who gives chase.
- Bank the reward: carry stolen food back to the straw nest.
- Grow the flock: nest food feeds hens, and each hen fed joins the flock.
- Open the estate: at three hens the kopitiam territory unlocks, and at five the playground parade is ready.
The design question is whether a small bird game can feel reactive enough to be funny, legible and tense without becoming heavy. The local setting is central to that. A rooster running through an HDB void deck or between kopitiam tables plays differently from a generic mascot platformer, and the player has to read the risk, improvise a route and watch the flock grow bolder because of what they did.
Levels and art
The default level is an HDB heartland diorama. Other levels include a smaller kopitiam courtyard and a Tanjong Pagar plaza, where the first version was set. Landmarks are stylized silhouettes rather than accurate models, and most detail sits below about three meters, at the chicken’s eye level.
The first phase set out to make the chicken fun to control; movement feel passed a human playtest on June 11, 2026.
Names
The deployed game and its source were called pagar-fowl, and the site’s showcase uses Pagar Fowl. Earlier notes also used Kampung Fowl as a family name, Kampung Boss in the design notes and photo mode, and hdb-junglefowl for a separate React Three Fiber vertical slice of the same loop set under a single HDB block.
The deployment has been retired. The showcase keeps selected moments, not a playable copy.
